“In addition to mental health concerns, WMC found that younger consumers preferred low and nonalcoholic options when they wanted to stay alert or were tasked with being the designated driver for the night. Others said they prefer the taste over regular wine. WMC Director of Research Christan Miller said the industry needs to provide more products that appeal to the pain points and preferences of the younger consumer. ‘Based on Gen Z and lower 20s and their rate of nonadoption, even if they behave like earlier generations, that correction won’t be enough to knock down what we’re seeing with Gen Z,’ Miller said.”
