“When the pandemic SIP orders went into effect in March 2020, the channel structure that had functioned like clockwork for more than a decade changed overnight. Restaurants closed, tasting rooms shuttered and wine sales from those channels moved into grocery and club stores. That shift is evident in the Nielsen chart first mentioned in this section. The volume and value lines that had begun to shift returned to familiar territory as cases spiked sharply higher for several months when consumers rerouted their spending to grocery stores.”
