“Eating and drinking places registered total sales of $99.5 billion on a seasonally adjusted basis in August, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Census Bureau. That was up 0.7% from July’s upward-revised sales volume of $98.8 billion. Consumer resilience was also evident at other retailers in recent months. It’s clear that consumers are not yet ready to relinquish their role as the primary drivers of the current economic expansion.”
