Ancient Peaks Hires East Coast Sales Specialist

Submitted By: Christopher Weir, January 16, 2014
Santa Margarita, CA—Ancient Peaks Winery today announced the hiring of Chris Thompson to the newly created position of East Coast sales specialist.

Thompson will work closely with accounts and the winery’s regional distributor, The Vintner Group, in key focus markets.

“I want Ancient Peaks to become a brand that people recognize and depend on and ask for by name, just as it is on the West Coast,” Thompson said.

Thompson’s experience in wine sales and distribution spans more than eight years. Prior to joining Ancient Peaks, he served as a wine consultant for The Vintner Group in North Carolina, one of the nation’s premier fine wine distributors. He is also a classically trained chef, and has achieved the second level of the Master Sommelier Program.

Before taking the position of East Coast sales specialist, Thompson moved to the Paso Robles wine country to work as a 2013 harvest intern at Ancient Peaks Winery, where he did everything from punching down to filling barrels.

“I wanted to learn winemaking from the ground up,” he said. “I was really drawn to Ancient Peaks by the commitment of the three ownership families and their hands-on involvement. I also knew that Margarita Vineyard was a special place to be a part of. Now when I’m selling the wine, I can say I helped make it, too.”

We are a family-owned winery specializing in wines from our sustainably farmed estate Margarita Vineyard in Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. Margarita Vineyard stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles AVA, nestled into the rugged Santa Lucia Mountain Range just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The name Ancient Peaks honors the tall peaks surrounding Margarita Vineyard, which were forged by the collision of the coastal plates. Over time, these same geologic forces blessed us with five distinct soil zones—ancient sea bed, sedimentary, shale, volcanic and granitic—that bring natural complexity to our wines. Our tasting room is located in Santa Margarita. Visit www.AncientPeaks.com for more information.
