Stoller Family Estate Predicting First to Harvest in Dundee Hills of Oregon

Submitted By: Dixie Huey, August 30, 2013
August 30, 2013, Dayton, OR – Stoller Family Estate, the largest contiguous vineyard in Oregon’s Dundee Hills, will once again be the first property in the AVA to begin harvest. Vineyard Manager, Robert Schultz, is predicting a start date on or around September 12. According to Schultz, “We are typically the first to pick fruit in the Dundee Hills given our southernmost location. Ours is a relatively warmer site, so our newer, lower elevation plantings ripen first. This year, we had an earlier bud break and bloom, and then a close to ideal lower fruit set, which naturally concentrated the flavors. It appears to be an all around stellar year, and I’m looking forward to tasting the results of our work.”

A harvest start date of September 12 would be two weeks ahead of the beginning of last year’s harvest and a full month ahead of 2011. Schultz anticipates harvesting 600 tons of fruit, which is a little higher than the average for the property given the newer plantings that have now come into fruition.
