Event Proudly Supports Eastern Wine Industry

Richmond, VA – The 37th Annual Wineries Unlimited Conference and Trade Show concluded its three day event with nearly 1,300 in total attendance. Attendees from Connecticut to Georgia and all points in between along the eastern seaboard were joined by customers from outside the U.S.

“Through outreach from our magazine, conferences, and trade show events like this one, Vineyard & Winery Management has strongly supported the eastern wine industry,” says Chairman Robert Merletti. “We remain deeply committed to the present and future success of the eastern wine industry. Along with winery associations in Virginia and neighboring states, we fully expect this show and conference to remain the preeminent industry event along the eastern seaboard.”

The conference and trade show was held March 12-14, 2013 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in downtown Richmond, Virginia, a location central to the entire eastern seaboard. Conference sessions focused on topics for today's wine industry, including enology, viticulture, marketing, TTB online services and new programs, and the uniquely designed 10-for-1 group consultations.

“Wine & Dine,” a formal evening with food and wine tasting, was held mid-show. The opening wine reception included a variety of eastern wines, and featured the Virginia Governor's Cup Case, which includes the top twelve highest scoring wines from the 2012 Governor’s Cup Competition, one of the most stringent competitions in the U.S. The evening included a special speaking engagement by Virginia vintner Eric F. Trump of Trump Winery based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Trump discussed his passion for Virginia and the East Coast wine industry. Also in attendance was Virginia’s Secretary of Agriculture, Todd Haymore.

This year’s live and silent auctions raised $14,500 for ASEV-ES scholarships, bringing the total raised since 2007 to over $103,000.

The two-day trade show showcased nearly 192 exhibiting companies who offered everything from grapevines and barrels to packaging and tasting equipment, and more. The expo included a vendor-sponsored lunch among the exhibit booths and a Happy Hour featuring wine and microbrews, including beer from Yuengling Brewery, the oldest brewery in America.

As a test market, craft brewers were invited to attend this event, since many suppliers service both wine and beer makers. In 2014, this event will expand to include the craft brewery market in a much larger sense.

“This is the obvious next step since craft brewers are finding new and larger audiences with consumers. We already have the enthusiastic support of many of our trade show vendors who supply both winemakers and brewers,” said Merletti.

Next year's conference will return to Richmond, VA from March 11-13, 2014. For complete information about the program please see
