Rutherford, CA – Members of the Rutherford Dust Society, the organization of wineries and growers in the Rutherford AVA, elected a new Board of Directors at their 12th Annual Membership Meeting:
• President: Regina Weinstein, Honig Vineyard & Winery
• Vice President: Gretchen Brakesman, The Ranch Winery
• Treasurer: Michelle Curtis Harris, Caspar Estate
• Secretary: Paul Wagner, Balzac Communications & Marketing
More than 60 members of the Rutherford Dust Society gathered at the luxurious Auberge du Soleil resort on February 12th for their annual membership meeting. After thanking departing president Robin Baggett for his hard work the past two years, the members elected new officials and reviewed the organization’s goals and mission. Topics discussed included a wide range of issues including the society’s three areas of focus: building community within Rutherford; building Rutherford as a leader in the community; and outreach to wine media, trade, and consumers.
Other discussion topics included marketing outreach for the Rutherford Dust Society: the annual Day in the Dust trade and media tasting, the annual Rutherford Block Party, quarterly newsletters to the trade and media, and presentations to the American Wine Society and Society of Wine Educators.
Each year the Rutherford Dust Society also invites speakers to address the annual meeting about issues important to the organization. This year Laurie Puzo, consultant to the Senate Select Committee on California’s Wine Industry, presented the members with a State Senate Resolution for their continuing work on restoring the Napa River as it runs through the Rutherford AVA.
About Rutherford Dust Society
Founded in 1994, the Rutherford Dust Society’s mission is to encourage and promote the highest quality standards in grape growing and wine making in the Rutherford Viticultural Area, and to gain recognition for this quality through education of the membership and public. To that end, the Rutherford Dust Society hosts several yearly events, including the community-oriented Rutherford Block Party and A Day in the Dust, a trade and media tasting of current vintages. To promote the health of the Napa River, the Rutherford Dust Society formed the Rutherford Dust Restoration Team, a group of vintners and growers who are working together to restore the river as it passes through the Rutherford AVA.
