2012 Harvest Report
From Ben Zeitman
Winemakers throughout California are smiling. Here at Amador Foothill, Mother Nature has been very generous in terms of crop yields and superb quality for all the grape varieties. After two cool growing seasons, we were back to a more normal harvest starting with Sauvignon Blanc in late August and Clockspring Zinfandel in mid October.
Most of our vineyards required crop thinning to insure even ripening and quality. Even so, we were surprised with record yields in our Sangiovese, Grenache, and Semillon. We are very pleased with our first crop of Barbera as well. Rain was not an issue for us this harvest season, other than having to cover the wine press while pressing the last tank of red wine on October 24th.
