Kelly Fleming Wines announces Big Pour

BIG POUR is the new companion label to Kelly Fleming Winery's Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. “We’ve blended 84% Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate vineyard and 16% Merlot from a distinctive Oakville vineyard,” explains Proprietor and Founder Kelly Fleming. “This is a bright, mature and elegant red wine, entirely enjoyable right now and with enough concentration and structure to age nicely,” she adds. The wine sells for $60/750ml at the winery only.

The wine has its own website---www.bigpourwine.com---and a club dedicated to pouring ‘big.’ Big Pour’s site includes a blog containing recipes geared for the wine; for example, http://www.bigpourwine.com/blog/Tiny-Meatballs-with-a-Big-Wine-Big-Pour.

Each vintage of Big Pour features a different black and white photograph from Debbie Fleming Caffery. The 2009 vintage features the photograph, Shadow Drinking, showing a man with his shadow on the wall in a cantina in the town of Olinala, Guerrero in Mexico. Debbie Fleming Caffery, a Louisiana native, is highly regarded for her work in documentary photography. Her work is included in numerous collections including The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She has received numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and The Michael P. Smith Documentary Photography Award from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

Kelly Fleming Wines is located at 2339 Pickett Road off the Silverado Trail two miles south of the town of Calistoga. Proprietor Kelly Fleming acquired the 300-acre property in 1998 and began planting vineyards in 1999. Today 12 acres are planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon with clones 4, 7, 8,191, 337 and 341 on 110-R, St. George, 140R and 101-14 rootstocks. The vines are vertical-shoot-positioned and cordon-pruned. The vineyard is nestled in Simmons Canyon 5-30% slopes.

Designed by Taylor Lombardo Architects of San Francisco, the 5,000-square-foot stone winery building was completed in 2010. The winery’s first release was the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon and currently has an annual production of approximately 2,000 cases. The winery’s team includes Winemaker Celia Welch, Assistant Winemaker Becky George, Hospitality Manager Colleen Fleming, General Manager Ryan Clark and Proprietor Kelly Fleming.
