2012 Unified Wine & Grape Symposium Program Taking Shape

Submitted By: Ken Freeze, August 02, 2011
SACRAMENTO, CA, August 1, 2011 – While the wine and grape industry is getting ready for the 2011 harvest, the 2012 Unified Symposium Program Development Committee has been hard at work developing the program for January’s event. And while much work is still to be done, some aspects, like the general sessions are taking shape.

Nick Frey of the Sonoma County Winegrape Commission and chair of the 2012 Unified Wine & Grape Symposium Program Development Committee said, "While the committee has finalized the content for general sessions, a lot more that needs to be worked on to develop the afternoon breakout sessions and to line up our speakers."

Thus far the program committee has established the following themes for the daily general sessions:
   • Tuesday, January 24, will address dealing with adverse and extreme weather conditions.
   • Wednesday, January 25, the State of the Industry will look at global production and sales trends including:
       - Overall economic perspective of the wine industry and economy at large (including the impact of currency fluctuation)
       - Vineyard acreage/crush members
       - Overview by a broker (to address bulk wine markets, wine inventories, and an international report)
       - Wine demand, including key trends and consumption metrics
   • Thursday, January 26, will focus on understanding and marketing your brand

"While the committee continues to finalize the general sessions, we will also be developing the afternoon breakout sessions and lining up speakers,” said Frey, adding “One new objective is to have breakout sessions in the afternoon that delve deeper into topics presented during the general sessions."

Built with the joint input of growers, vintners and allied industry members, the Unified Symposium serves as a clearinghouse of information important to wine and grape industry professionals. The Unified Symposium also hosts the industry’s largest trade show of its kind, with over 600 vendors displaying their products and services.
