WASHINGTON STATE WINE COMMISSION PARTNERS WITH
AMORIM’S NATURAL CORK RECYCLING PROGRAM AT
TASTE WASHINGTON! SEATTLE
NAPA, California. March 25, 2010— ReCORK by Amorim, a North American-based wine cork recycling program sponsored by Amorim of Portugal and SOLE of Canada, announced that the Washington State Wine Commission has selected ReCORK to be their natural cork recycling partner of choice at this year’s premier wine and food event, Taste Washington!, to be held in Seattle on March 27-28. Over 200 wineries will be on hand to pour their finest wines in concert with 60 Seattle-area restaurants. Event information can be found online at www.tastewashington.org.
The Washington State Wine Commission represents over 650 wineries and growers throughout Washington State. Roger Archey, a spokesperson for ReCORK, is thrilled and honored with` the new partnership. “We couldn’t be more pleased,” said Archey. “We are supporting Taste Washington with collection containers and educational literature. And after the event is over, we will work with the Commission to roll out a recycling program for all of their membership. This joint effort fits nicely with the overall aim to raise the consciousness of wine consumers and the trade alike to the benefits of recycling and sustainability – one cork at a time.”
“The nearly 6 million acres of cork oak forests that dot the Mediterranean basin are the basis of an ecosystem which is unique in the world, and which contributes to the survival of many native species of plants and animals. It is also a source of employment for tens of thousands of agricultural workers. In addition, cork forests play a vital role in the fight against desertification and climate change. By recycling a simple cork closure, you can visualize the product source, its evolution into a useful natural product, and its potential for an extended life far beyond its first use in a bottle of fine wine.”
Amorim’s ReCORK and their Canadian marketing partner SOLE have teamed up to bring new life to old wine corks in the form of a new line of cork-blended footwear products and packaging materials, to be released in early 2010.
